It was Super Saturday last weekend for the Top 3 in Division 2. Suns FC, Musketeers & Lions FC all had hopes of not only promotion but also winning the division.
I was hoping for back to back matches involving all the 3 teams on Saturday afternoon but I was requested to move the Lions fixture till later in the day due to religious reasons.
Saturday saw Footy Japan host our final 7s tournament of the season. In recent season the Charity 7s has been very popular and this year was no different. We had a mix of new and old teams competing. For the first time in a few years Footy Japan entered a team which consisted of the British Football Academy coaches.
A boring FA Cup Final, a lovely Royal Wedding and 2 new Cup holders. What a Saturdays it was.
We broke from tradition this year as it was the Cup Final that kicked off first. Pumas were looking to go one better than last season by winning the Cup. BEFC were looking at giving their manager Ben the perfect send off before he hangs up his armband.
After a break for Golden Week, the TML returned with 3 big Division 1 matches. BEFC and Zion were battling it out to stay in the division. FC International were looking at keeping hold of 2nd position. The other match saw Tokyo Hibernian looking to secure their 9th TML title.
They were up against Swiss Kickers who were looking at stopping their old enemies in securing another title.
Sunday evening saw the top 2 teams in Division 2 battle it out. Dutch FC had only dropped 2 points all season and that was in their opening match. They were up against a Shane FC team chasing their first ever promotion.
The game was played at a high intensity which is something that can't always be said in Division 3. Shane FC's played a in-your-face but fair game. This disrupted the usual slick passing that Dutch have shown all season.
Referee Nick had the privilege of refereeing the 2 standout teams for this weeks award. The first nomination goes to Real Celts. Having recently purchased a new kit it was only fitting that someone forgot the kit bag. Some quick thinking from the guys, and Real Celts were donning some lovely white sports shirts which were purchased from the near by sports shop.
Hachioji Park had the privilege of hosting the top teams in Division 2 & 3. After Dutch FC had brushed aside KGFC in the early kick off it was time for Suns FC to continue their promotion charge.
